With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life so richly lived, we remember and celebrate the remarkable Gloria Joseph, who peacefully departed this world on August 11, 2026. Born September 23, 1944, Gloria blessed her loved ones with eighty-one years of warmth, adventure, and steadfast love.

Gloria’s legacy is one of presence—she was there for her family and friends, through joys and challenges, always offering her loving, caring heart. She was a devoted mother to Shari Hunt and Chris Jacobs, and nothing brought her greater happiness than caring for her family and sharing in their milestones. Her grandchildren Angela Luna, Kelli Hunt, Jes Martinez-Hunt, Duane Thornton, Alan Jacobs, and Elliot Jacobs, each carry pieces of her unwavering support, lively stories, and infectious laughter. Gloria was endlessly proud of each of them and nurtured strong bonds, creating countless cherished memories that will be held close forever. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Karen Waldo, as well as family near and far.

While Gloria is now reunited with her parents and her siblings Berneice Dayton, Shirley Catey, Marjorie Young, Cecil Hughes, Herman Hughes, and Roger Hughes who preceded her in passing, her spirit remains ever-present among those who loved her. The family finds comfort in picturing them together again, sharing stories as they did so often on earth.

Central to Gloria’s life was her remarkable devotion to family. She had a gift for making every person in her orbit feel supported, valued, and cared for—showing up at sports events, award ceremonies, school events, or simply being there during quiet, important moments. She gave generously not only of her time, but of her wisdom, humor, and an endless supply of stories, always eager to share her experiences and knowledge with the people she treasured.

Throughout her life, Gloria loved exploring the beauty of Michigan. The family cabin up north was their sanctuary—a place for endless laughter, lakeside swims, and long walks along wooded trails. Summer days spent at the cabin became the canvas of their fondest memories: trying new paths together, swimming and fishing in the clear water, and spending evenings driving in search of wildlife, wracked with laughter at the uncertain fate of their old car navigating narrow country roads. One especially treasured summer saw Gloria, her daughter, and her grandchildren visit every Great Lake and lighthouse in Michigan—an adventure filled with stories they still recall with joy and gratitude. The heart of each of these memories was Gloria’s delight in simply being together, creating moments of wonder and belonging.

Beyond Michigan, Gloria’s adventures took her across the country, building beautiful stories in Texas, Florida, and Colorado. Whether meeting her granddaughter in Texas or revisiting beloved spots in other states, Gloria found joy in togetherness and discovery. No matter where she traveled, her heart always returned to her family and to the simple moments that made life beautiful.

Gloria Joseph’s laughter, generosity, stories, and unfailing kindness will echo for generations. Her family, bound together by her devotion, will continue to share the traditions and tales she so lovingly created. Though she is no longer by our side, her loving spirit will always stay with us—in every shared meal, every walk in the woods, and every retold story.
