With heavy hearts, we remember and celebrate the life of our grandma, mother, sister, and friend, Gloria Joseph, who passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, at the age of 81. She was born on September 23, 1944. 

Gloria was someone who loved her family deeply and was always there for the people she cared about. Whether it was a sporting event, an award ceremony, a school event, or just spending time together, she always made sure she was there. She loved hearing about what everyone was doing and was always ready with a story, some advice, or a good laugh.

She had a way of making people feel loved and cared for. She was generous with her time and never seemed to run out of stories to tell. She loved sharing things she had learned throughout her life, talking about the places she had been, and remembering the things she had experienced. Some of our favorite memories are simply the times we spent together listening to her stories and laughing with her. She never ran out of things to talk about and always had something to add or share. We will deeply miss her stories--even ones we've heard many, many times before. 

The family cabin up north was a favorite place for everyone--a place where so many memories were made. There were summer days spent swimming and fishing, walking through the woods, trying out new trails, and driving around looking for wildlife. There was plenty of laughter along the way, including more than a few questionable drives down narrow and washed out backroads in a car that was probably not meant for some of the places we took it. 

One of our most special adventures was when Gloria, her sister Karen, her daughter, and grandchildren set out to visit every Great Lake and lighthouse in Michigan. It was the kind of trip that created stories we would talk about for years afterwards. More than anything, what made those trips special was simply having everyone together. Gloria's love for adventure took her beyond Michigan as well. She loved road trips and enjoyed traveling to places like Texas, Florida, Arizona, Colorado, and all the states in between. She loved visiting family and exploring new places, but no matter where she went, being with the people she loved was what mattered most. 

Gloria is now reunited with her parents and her siblings, Berneice Dayton, Shirley Catey, Marjorie Young, Cecil Hughes, Herman Hughes, and Roger Hughes, who passed before her. We find comfort in imagining them all together again, catching up, telling stories, and probably laughing just as they always did. 

She is survived by her daughter, Shari Hunt (Terry Moubray), her son Chris Jacobs, her grandchildren Angela Luna (Mario Luna), Kelli Hunt, Jes-Martinez-Hunt (Tess Martinez-Hunt), Duane Thornton (Christy Thornton), Alan Jacobs, and Eliot Jacobs, all of her great-grandchildren, her sister Karen Hughes, and many other family members and loved ones. 

Gloria leaves behind so many stories, memories, and pieces of herself in the people she loved. We will remember her in the places we visited together, the stories she told over and over, the laughter she shared with us, and all of the little moments that we may not have realized were so special at the time. 

She was a loving mom, grandma, sister, and friend, and she will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest peacefully, Gloria. We love you and will carry you with us always.
