Glen Orman Prouty, known affectionately as Glen, was a beacon of strength and joy to all who knew him. Born on September 5, 1964, in Plainwell, Michigan, Glen's life journey of 60 years came to a peaceful close on September 8, 2024, in Galesburg, Michigan, after a valiant battle with cancer. Glen's vibrant spirit and unwavering positivity left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched.
Glen's early life in Plainwell laid the foundation for the resilient and hardworking man he became. Though his formal education culminated with the 10th grade, Glen's real-world wisdom and practical skills were immeasurable. A man of the road, Glen's career as a tow truck driver and an over-the-road semi-driver showcased his love for travel and his dedication to the essential work of keeping our nation's goods moving.
Family was the cornerstone of Glen's world. He was a devoted family man, a loving husband to his wife, Kathy Prouty, and a proud father to Nicole, Shauna, Jeremy, Taylor, Kaylee, and Seirra. Glen's legacy also continued through his 11 grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. Though his father, Gordon Prouty, predeceased him, Glen's spirit of family was nurtured by his mother, Betty Prouty, and his siblings, Regina Brown, Lisa Kreinbrook, and Anthony Boyd. His extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins also held a special place in his life.
Glen's interests were as vast as the open roads he traveled. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in hunting, fishing, and two-tracking through the wilderness. His love for music and bonfires brought people together, creating memories that would outlast the flames. Stock car racing pumped adrenaline through his veins, and his favorite TV show, "Heartland," resonated with his deep appreciation for family and the simple joys of life.
Amongst his circle, Glen was known for his ability to turn any gathering into a celebration of the moment. His zest for life was contagious, and his ability to find joy in the everyday made him a natural motivator. He was often found sharing stories with his grandchildren, imparting lessons of resilience and the importance of chasing one's passion. His love for his dogs was yet another testament to his caring and nurturing soul.
Glen's life philosophy could be summed up by the inspiring words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, who once said, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to leave the world a better place... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Glen embodied this quote, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, respect, and a world undeniably better for his presence.
In every aspect of his life, Glen was a testament to the power of positivity and the strength of the human spirit. He faced life's challenges with a smile and never lost sight of the importance of family, friendship, and the simple pleasures that make life worth living. Glen's memory will continue to inspire and motivate all who were fortunate enough to have known him, a true testament to a life well-lived.
As we bid farewell to Glen Orman Prouty, we celebrate a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left a legacy of joy and resilience. His life's journey may have reached its destination, but the paths he traveled and the lives he touched will continue to resonate for generations to come.
