Gaylord James Pitcher, affectionately known as "Snuff," passed away on December 29, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at the age of 88. Born on March 2, 1937, in Grand Rapids, he returned as a resident of the city he loved in 2022.
Snuff graduated from Kelloggsville High School in 1955 and furthered his education at Davenport College. His professional life was marked by a successful career with Central Engraving Company of Grand Rapids in the graphic arts industry. He began in sales and later rose to Vice President of the company and ultimately retired from the resultant company Modern Lithographics of Grand Rapids.
Known for his humor and fun-loving nature, Snuff was a proud and conservative family man. He cherished his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, bringing laughter and joy to those around him. Dad loved dogs and dogs loved him! His love for the outdoors was evident in his favorite hobbies, deer hunting at “Beer Camp” and salmon fishing, where he enjoyed the thrill of the catch by force feeding salmon with snagging hooks! He was best known for “Snuffy’s Fried Chicken”! If you know you know!
Snuff is survived by his sister, Sharon Pruess; children, Michael M. Pitcher (Deidra), Brenda A. Fannon (Scott), and Lisa M. Vandermeer (James); grandchildren, Brandon Fannon, Devin Fannon, Cory A. Pitcher; parents, Millard F. and Dorothy B. Pitcher; and grandchildren, Spencer J. Pitcher and Camerin M. Pitcher.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids, Michigan, in memory of Gaylord "Snuff" Pitcher, to honor his compassionate spirit and love for his family.
