Gary James Farris

Gary J. Farris of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on November 16, 2025, at the age of 57. Born on September 21, 1968, in Okinawa, Japan. At the age of 8, Gary moved to Michigan from England with his mom and sister.

Gary lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, unwavering faith, and an independent spirit. He was always someone you could count on, expecting nothing in return. He was a man who marched to the beat of his own drum, always staying true to who he was.

Known for his skill as a mechanic, his hard work, his love for fishing, and his deep Christian faith, Gary had a gift for helping others-often quietly, without recognition, but always with sincerity. His compassion touched countless lives, and he will be remembered for his gentle wisdom, humble spirit, and steadfast commitment to lifting up the people around him.

Gary had a thirst for knowledge. He attended Grand Rapids Community College and was on the Dean’s List. Gary also attended Grand Valley State University for his geology degree. He obtained a CDL and eventually ventured into his own small business.

Gary was loved deeply by family and friends alike. He is survived by his mother, Daphne; his sister, Dawn; brother in-law Jim and his many nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished him dearly. To them, Gary was not only a beloved family member but a source of guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love.

His legacy is one of service, selflessness, and faith—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life honoring Gary will be held on Saturday December 6, 2025, from 2:00-6:00 PM at the Grand Celebration Center, 925 4 Mile Rd NW, Walker, MI. 49544. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Gary’s life and the love he brought to those who knew him.
