Frederick James Korcal, known affectionately as Fred to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at the age of 81 in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on February 23, 1944, in the same vibrant city, Fred's life was one marked by dedication, warmth, and a love for the simple pleasures in life. Fred's early years in Grand Rapids laid the foundation for a life characterized by strong family ties and a robust work ethic. He carried these values throughout his life, touching the lives of those around him with his handy skills and spirited nature.


Fred's career spanned many years at Wolverine World Wide and Model Die and Mold, where his colleagues respected him for his thoughtfulness and commitment to excellence. Beyond his professional achievements, Fred was a man of many interests. He spent countless hours tending to his garden, where he found peace and satisfaction in the growth and bloom of his plants. An avid fisherman, Fred could often be found on a small lake, patiently waiting for the catch of the day. His love for TV westerns was well-known among his family, a passion he indulged in during his quiet evenings, often with his two beloved cats, Mac and Charlie, by his side.


Fred's life was a testament to the value of family and community. He is survived by his cherished children, Todd and Christy Korcal, Deanna and Rick Miles, and Jay Korcal. His Grand Children, TJ and Nekoda Korcal, Jenna Korcal, Kaelee Korcal, Eli Korcal, and Lindsy Miles. Fred also leaves behind his treasured great-grandchild, Rory Hare, who brought him immense joy in his later years.


To say that Fred was handy would be an understatement. He was the go-to person for family and friends whenever something needed fixing, and he tackled each task with a can-do attitude that was both inspiring and comforting. His spirited approach to life's challenges was contagious, and he never ceased to offer a helping hand or a word of encouragement. Fred was a thoughtful individual, always considering the needs and feelings of others before his own. This attribute shone brightly in his interactions with his family, friends, and colleagues, earning him the deep respect and admiration of all who knew him.


As we bid farewell to Frederick James Korcal, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. In accordance with his wishes, a private service will be held to honor Fred's life and legacy. He will be laid to rest his beloved wife Deb in Edmore MI.
