Eileen Johnson

November 19, 1949 — July 12, 2021

Eileen Johnson passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2021, surrounded by her family after a valiantly fought battle with COPD. Eileen was born in Holland, Michigan on November 19, 1949 to Robert E. Veeder and Betty J. Spencer. In her adult life, she lived in the Fennville and Pullman area. Eileen had a well-developed sense of humor and quick wit that she shared with her children, family and friends. For many years, she drove a school bus for Fennville Public Schools, delighting her riders with bits of humor and songs; she would be thrilled when a high school student requested her to start a sing-along of “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” She also spent many years as a caretaker for developmentally disabled adults. For numerous years Eileen sewed delightful aprons, bags and stuffed animals that she sold at craft shows and Eagle Street Market in South Haven. Notably, one of her fanciful aprons was featured in the Apronology magazine in 2012. She was a consummate thrift store shopper and creatively repurposed clothes and furniture into fabulous items. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Todd Mitchell Johnson in 1968 and former husband Herbert Johnson in 2020. She is survived by daughter Tina Marie Davison and son Shannon Lee Johnson; grandsons Caleb Todd Hoffman, Devon Scott Johnson and John Jeffery Mika; sisters Janis (Bruce) Carpenter and Gini (Jim) Cooper; and nieces and nephews. She will be honored with a celebration of life on September 18. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Holland or Al-Van Humane Society. Eileen aptly named her hospice team “The Bad-Ass Warriors.” She will be deeply missed and will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
