Edward Barry McLaughlin

age 90, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully on Sunday,

November 19.

Edward (Ed) was born on July 1, 1933 in Hastings, Michigan to William and Ethel McLaughlin and was the youngest of six children. He attended Hastings Area Schools, graduating in 1951, after which he served in the United States Airforce as a communications specialist, both state side and in the Philippines. He married Margaret (McDermid) McLaughlin on June 10, 1961 and they were married 33 years when Margaret passed away in 1994. Early in their marriage, Ed and Margaret settled in Wyoming, Michigan where they raised their three daughters. In 2002, Ed was blessed a second time when he met and married Mary (Kadwell) McLaughlin on June 8, 2002.

Ed was a devoted husband, caring father- a true girl-dad, loving grandpa, and proud great-grandpa. He was an active member of Calvary Church since 1996 and involved with his small group until suffering a stroke in 2022. He enjoyed working on projects and had several hobbies and activities to keep him going: building a backyard deck and a shed in his late 80's, baking, garage sales, golfing, fishing (out-fished family once using a Ron Popeil Pocket Fisherman!), and helping his kids and grandkids with anything and everything.

Ed is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Kathy

Wildfong of Rockford, Lisa (Christopher) Boyd of Rockford, Marsha (Douglas) Harig of Belding; grandchildren, Aaron (Katie) McLaughlin, Deanna Wildfong, Jeremy

Wildfong, Karyna Boyd, Alec Boyd, Samantha Harig; and great-grandchildren, Elsa McLaughlin, Andrew McLaughlin, and Clementine Harig. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Ed in death were his parents, wife;

(Robert) Shellington, and Frances Morgan.
