Konopka, Edward F, 93 – a former long-term resident of Depew, NY - passed away on October 6, 2023, in Southwest Michigan where he had resided for about a year. Ed had also lived in both Florida and Delaware for lengthy periods.
Ed was born in Avoca, PA. His father was a coal miner and his mother a home maker. His grandparents were all Polish immigrants. He was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. He subsequently worked as a manager at the Neisner Brothers department store in Buffalo, NY where he met his wife, Joan. They were married on June 1, 1957.
Ed left Neisner’s to work in new home sales for Helenbrook Homes. He later formed his own general contracting company, Konopka-Crescent Homes, Inc. which built dozens of custom homes in the greater Buffalo area. He retired in 1997. Ed was a people person and was always quick to offer a helping hand. He never lost his sense of humor or positive mental outlook. Ed was a practicing Catholic.
Ed was preceded in death by his: parents, Frank J. Konopka & Veronica (Snopkowski) Konopka, brother, Frank P. Konopka, brother-in-law Daniel Nowacki, and son-in-law Orlando (OJ) Mazza. In addition to his beloved wife, Joan, Ed is survived by his: brother, Joseph Konopka; sister-in-law, Irma Nowacki; children: Lynn Mazza, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Konopka, and Kathleen (Timothy) Sarchett; grandchildren: Christine (Tom) Stahlecker, Brian Lagree, Mark Lagree, Jared Wahl, Justin (Tannon) Konopka, and Jessica Konopka; great-granddaughters: Olivia and Eleanor Stahlecker; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandson, Sebastian Konopka, in December.
Ed will be greatly missed by all. He will be interred privately at St. Matthews cemetery in West Seneca, NY.
