Dwight Scherer

January 17, 1951 — January 14, 2025

Dwight passed away unexpectedly at Bronson Battle Creek on 1/14/25 due to health issues, he was surrounded by his family. Dwight was born in Coldwater, Michigan to Lewis and Gladys (Marvin) Scherer whom preceded him in death along with his oldest brother, Gary Scherer, son, Jonathan Henry Scherer, father and mother in-law (Charles and Mary Weller) along with his brother in-law (Rodney Weller) and sister in-law Karen (Weller) Davis. He is survived by his wife Loretta (Weller) Scherer of 54 years. Children: David and Michele (Lawhead) Scherer of Oklahoma City, OK, Daniel and Samantha (Montgomery) Scherer of Union City, MI, Bobbiejo (Scherer) Briggs of Harrison, MI and Nathan Scherer of Burlington, MI. 18 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. Son in-law Korey Briggs of Marshall, MI and daughter in-law Jamie (Strayer) Scherer of Cooperville, MI, sister Patricia (Scherer) and Jerry Long of Tekonsha, MI and brother Douglas Scherer of Tekonsha, MI as well as many neices and nephews.

Dwight and Loretta met at his family home. They were married on September 21st, 1970 in Athens, AL. He then joined the Army and was stationed in Germany where they lived for a couple years then returned home to the states and made their family home in Burlington, MI and raised their four children.

Dwight was employed at Trim Parts in Marshall, MI for some time before leaving this position and taking a job at Quality Converters in Orland, IN. When he left this position he went and worked for Lake City Cold Forge in Coldwater, MI where he was a plant supervisor. He did a few odd and end factory positions before taking the position at Systems Unlimited where he ended his working career as a machinist. Afterwards he worked out of the garage of the home he built for him and his wife to enjoy their retirement years together. Dwight was a Jack of all trades. If it was broken he would fix it somehow, someway even if he needed to make a new part. His family recalls we don't think there is anything he couldn't do as long as it did not involve blood and guts. He could weld, build with his hands, carpentry, design/architect, plumb, electrical, propane work, CNC operator and mill, tool and dye, and especially automotive and boat mechanic.

Family will be having a private family get together on 1/18/25 and at a later date when the weather is nice a memorial for Dwight will take place at their family home in Burlington family reunion style all we ask when the date is posted is to bring a dish to pass and a lawn chair.

Dwight will be missed by all of those that knew and loved him, especially his family.
