Douglas Reed

August 2, 1951 — January 28, 2025

Douglas Duane Reed Sr., born on August 2, 1951, in Marshall, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on January 28, 2025, surrounded by the care and love of his family.


The youngest of six siblings, Douglas was the son of Earl and Freda (Sanders) Reed. In 1974, Douglas married Sue Goodrich, beginning a partnership that spanned over five decades. The couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.


Throughout his life, Douglas was a dedicated worker and entrepreneur. In the 1980s, he and Sue founded Balloon and Things, a business they built together. He was also among the first employees hired at Walker Manufacturing Company and worked in several factories over the years. Later in life, Douglas owned and operated Reed’s Concessions and worked for several auction companies across Michigan.


Douglas found joy in many pursuits. He had a passion for working on cars and enjoyed attending auctions. He looked forward to trips to the casino with Sue and shared many memorable moments camping with his family.


Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Sue Reed; son, Douglas (Rose) Reed; daughters, Victoria (Darrel) Roy, Angela Johnson, and Courtney (Steven) Delaney; sisters, Theresa (Melvin) Reed and Darlene Mead; nine grandchildren; nine great-grand-children; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Freda Reed; brother, William Reed; sisters, Wilma Reed and Audrey Reed; and daughter, Nancy Field.


In accordance with Douglas’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. His memory will be treasured by his loved ones.
