Douglas Raymond
Compton
Mar 14, 1959 — Oct 3, 2026
Saturday
The Glenn Community Center
1:00 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Douglas Raymond Compton lived a life defined by service, steadiness, and a quiet devotion that shaped the Ganges community for decades. Born on March 14, 1959, Doug grew into the kind of man people instinctively trusted: The one you called when something went wrong and the one who showed up without hesitation.
For forty years, Doug served on the Ganges Fire Department, including twenty-six years as fire chief. His leadership wasn't loud or showy. It was rooted in calm decision-making, deep experience, and an unwavering commitment to the people around him. Generations of firefighters learned under his guidance, and countless families slept more peacefully knowing Doug was the one answering the call.
Outside the fire hall, Doug found his freedom on two wheels. Riding his Harley was more than a pastime. It was his way of breathing, thinking, and reconnecting with the world. Whether it was a long summer ride or a quick trip to clear his head, the road was where Doug felt most himself.
Doug was a man of loyalty, routine, and quiet humor. He never needed recognition to make an impact. He simply showed up, again and again, for his family, friends, and community. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, deep sense of responsibility, and the unique way he carried both strength and gentleness at the same time.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Glenn Community Center (6953 114th Ave., Glenn, MI 49416), where friends, family, and fellow firefighters will gather to honor Doug's life, his service, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Doug's impact lives on in the firefighters he trained, the neighbors he protected, and the family who loved him fiercely. His life was a testament to showing up, giving back, and doing the right thing even when no one was watching. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
