56, lost her battle with cancer and went peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus on August 1, 2026. Denise was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, aunt, sister, daughter, and so much more to countless others who were fortunate enough to know her. She was the life of every party, the best cook around, and the person with the biggest heart. She wore that heart on her sleeve and never hesitated to take people in with no questions asked. Denise didn’t just make friends—she made family. No matter what she was going through herself, she stopped at nothing to help everyone around her. She was the rock of her family, the steady, loving force who held everyone together with her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit.She will be deeply missed by all who loved her, and her memory will live on in the many lives she touched and the family she created wherever she went. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Doug(Charlie) VandenBerg , her daughter Catelyn Rottschafer and her husband Jordan and grandchildren Carter(7) and Parker.(7 months),Her son Casey VandenBerg and his wife Lou, her parents Fred and Gloria Hoonhorst, as well as her 3 sisters and their spouses and 2 brothers and their spouses and countless nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Denise’s life will be held at her daughter's home on Saturday August 15th at 6459 Pierce Street Allendale, MI 49401, if you'd like to pay your respects to the family and just remember Denise in a quiet setting that will take place from 1pm-3pm, followed by the celebration of life Denise wanted with water fun for the kids and games for everyone as well as pulled pork and other food which will go on as long as people would like to stay. Beverages will not be provided so please bring your own and be respectful and responsible. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her by showing kindness to someone in need—just as she always did.
