Debra Sue Shepard

October 2, 1969 — November 29, 2025

Debra Sue Shepard, 56, of Belding, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2025.

Born on October 2, 1969, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Debbie was the daughter of Donald and Pamela Shaffer. She grew up in Lowell, Michigan, and graduated from Lowell Area Schools in 1988. In 1990, she married the love of her life, Michael Shepard, and together they built a home rich with laughter, adventure, and moments that will be treasured forever. Soon after, they began their family, welcoming three children who became the center of the life she always wanted.

A devoted wife and mother, Debbie poured her heart and soul into raising her family and creating the best life possible for her children. She was present in every moment of her family’s life and always put their needs before her own. Whether she was welcoming loved ones into her home, cooking a meal to share, or offering help to anyone who needed it, Debbie made everyone around her feel cared for and valued.

Debbie found joy in the things that brought people together. She loved attending University of Michigan football games with friends, soaking in the energy and togetherness of each season. But it was her trips to Disney World with her family that truly captured her heart, returning multiple times each year to experience the magic together, share laughter, embrace new adventures, and create memories that would be cherished forever. At home, she found comfort in feeding her beloved critters or simply enjoying quiet moments surrounded by the people she loved most.

Being a Nana was one of Debbie’s greatest joys later in life. She adored her grandchildren, Joselyn, Savannah, and Callie, and cherished every moment with them. They shared sleepovers, girls’ nights, shopping trips, family holidays, birthdays, and of course, Disney adventures. She never missed an opportunity to support the girls at their functions or simply spend quality time together. Debbie was the best Nana, creating lasting memories that each of the girls will carry with them forever.

Debbie had a special talent for making everyone feel welcome, valued, and appreciated. Although she had three children of her own, many people affectionately knew her as “Mama Shep,” a testament to the love, guidance, and care she freely shared with all who crossed her path.

She is survived by her husband, Mike; her children, Tiffany (Mike) Taylor of Rockford, Michigan, Justin Shepard (Jamie Taylor) of Belding, Michigan, and Brittany (Justin) LaFever of Cedar Springs, Michigan; her loving parents, Donald and Pamela Shaffer of Belding, Michigan; and her brother, Donald Shaffer Jr. (Nina Jarad) of Florida. Additionally, Debbie leaves behind several other family members, including uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as close lifelong friends.

Debbie’s love, warmth, and spirit touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed, and her kindness, thoughtfulness, and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A celebration of Debbie’s life is being planned for after the new year. Arrangements and details will be shared at a later date. The family encourages everyone to attend and share the wonderful memories they have of Debbie.

In memory of Debbie, please consider making a donation to Cannonsville Critters or any local animal rescue, as Debbie was always a fierce advocate, and a passionate supporter of animal rescues in the area.
