Deborah Jean Barbknecht, affectionately known as Deb, Debbie or Gams to her loved ones, passed away on December 16, 2024, in Grand Rapids, MI, after a courageous battle with Primary Progressive Aphasia. Deb was born on August 11, 1951 to Clarence and Beverly Demien, in South Bend, IN. She was a graduate of John Adams High School’s class of 1969.
Deb's heart found its match in Rex Barbknecht, and together they built a life filled with love and shared passions. Although Rex predeceased her, their love story continued to inspire all who knew them, and it brings comfort to imagine their joyful reunion in Heaven.
Deb is survived by her daughters, Beth (Sam) Frank and Dawn (Chris) Calhoon; her grandchildren, Tanith Frank, Jack Frank, Ricky (Taylor) Calhoon, Hope Calhoon and Harlie Calhoon; her sisters, Cheryl (Tom) Lamplot and Patty Yoder and a host of aunts, cousins, and friends who miss her deeply.
As we remember Deborah Jean Barbknecht, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart generously shared. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched. Deb's journey on earth may have concluded, but her story of love, resilience, and joy continue on.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 27th at Ferrettie/Baugo Creek Park. Family and friends are invited to join any time between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to share a memory and celebrate a life well lived.
