David Leo Steiner

April 23, 1941 — February 18, 2021

David Leo Steiner ,age 79, passed away in Belmont Michigan on Thursday, February 18, 2021. Dave loved spending time with his family and many friends , and playing, coaching and watching all sports especially the Red Wings. He especially loved watching his grandchildren's sports events. Dave graduated from Creston High School in 1959 and was proud to be a life long Polar Bear continuing to meet with former classmates for monthly breakfasts. He spent his entire working career with one company, Veneklasen Concrete, where he oversaw many large scale construction projects during his 41 year career. Dave was also an avid outdoorsmen, enjoying his free time fishing and hunting. After retirement, he kept busy providing "handy man" services for others in Leisure Village. He also loved local history and served as the Director of the Hyser Rivers Museum. Though somewhat small in stature, Dave had a big heart. He was always willing to help those in need. Friends called him the "Blue Bird Whisperer" for the care and attention he provided the families of blue birds living in the nests he provided. He will be deeply missed by Shay, his wife of 59 years, his children Scott (Diane Capen) Steiner, Mary (Richard) Steiner-Wildeboer, and Michael Steiner; grandchildren Justin (Whitney) Wildeboer, Grace Wildeboer, Kristen (Travis) Boeskool, Dana Steiner, Luke Sly, and Samuel Sly; and great grandchild, Eleanor Boeskool. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Eileen Steiner and his daughter, Lisa Sly. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church at 11:00am on March 20th with visitation from 10-11am preceding the mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Melanoma Research Alliance. https://www.curemelanoma.org/
