David B. Schaafsma

December 26, 1961 — January 7, 2025

David Bryan Schaafsma, affectionately known as "Peckerwood", passed away on January 7th, 2025, at the age

of 63, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on December 26th, 1961, in Alpena, Michigan, David's early years

were filled with the love and laughter of a large family, which set the tone for a life that would be both jovial

and adventurous.

David is survived by his son Tanner Schaafsma, his stepchildren Kelly Romance and Brandon Schwartz. His

siblings Daniel Schaafsma, Patti Schaafsma, and sister-in-law Carol (Donald Jr.) Schaafsma. His spirit is also

cherished by many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles who were blessed to be a part of his extended family.

Proceeded in death by his parents, Donald and Joyce Schaafsma, his first son Davey Bryan Schaafsma, his

brothers Donald Schaafsma Jr. and Joel Schaafsma, and his sister Julie Schaafsma-Hull.

To David, life was an adventure to be lived fully, a song to be sung loudly, and a journey to be taken on two

wheels whenever possible. He was rarely seen without his Harley, embracing the freedom of the open road with

enthusiasm. This same energy was poured into his craft of making personalized walking sticks. His humor and

friendship touched countless lives, and his absence will leave a void that can only be filled with the memories of

his laughter and the stories of his escapades. As we reflect on his journey, and say goodbye to David, we

celebrate his crazy adventurous spirit. While we will miss David's physical presence, his spirit will forever ride

alongside us, with the roar of his Harley in the wind and the echo of his laughter in our hearts.

There will be a benefit for David on Sunday Feb. 2, 2025, 1PM - 6PM

Flamingo Lounge 930 Bridge St. NW. Proceeds going to funeral and burial expenses.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Ride will take place in the spring.
