Danita Anthony

May 25, 1956 — August 30, 2025

Grand Rapids

Danita Anthony, 69, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, after a courageous battle. Danita was born a twin with Dwight Anthony, who passed away shortly after birth on May 25, 1956, in Birmingham, Alabama, Danita brought light and love into every life she touched. Her journey—marked by compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication—continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Danita loved the Lord, and confessed her faith at an early age. She was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church at 51st & State Street under Reverend Jones. Danita received her early education at Kohn Elementary and Harlan High School. She later pursued studies at Malcolm X College and went on to complete formal training as a Certified Nurse Assistant.

She was the cherished daughter of James and Louise Anthony, both of whom preceded her in death, along with Juanita Anthony, who lovingly embraced the role of mother after Louise’s passing. Danita was raised in a home filled with love, faith, and strong family bonds.

A devoted sister, she is survived by her loving siblings, Howard Anthony (Odessa, preceded) and Shari Anthony. She is also deeply mourned by her beloved daughters, Tanika Anthony and Tywana Anthony, who were the center of her world and a testament to her strength and nurturing spirit.

Danita shared enduring connections with her late siblings—Dwight, Kerzakias (Sandra, preceded), Joyce, Joseph, Jimmy (Judy), Vransky and Cherry Anthony-Merriweather. She was a loving and proud grandmother to Tivon, Lonnie III, Tondalaya (Wilno), Tandreya, Tyree, Treyvon, Takia, Tionne, Tywon, and Taniya, and leaves behind great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever cherish her warmth and unwavering kindness.

Danita’s circle of love extended far beyond her immediate family. Her heart of gold, her big bright eyes, and her radiant smile became her legacy. From an early age, she was known for her boundless kindness, willingness to help, and unwavering support of those around her. These qualities shaped not only her personal life but also her career.

A proud milestone in Danita’s life was earning her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). In this calling, she provided dignified, compassionate care, offering comfort to those in pain and treating every patient with the same tenderness she gave her own loved ones. Her colleagues admired her dedication and her gift for seeing the person behind every chart.

Family remember her as a steady presence in times of need—open-armed, soft-hearted, and endlessly giving her heart and spirit. Friends will forever treasure her laughter, her empathy, and the joy she brought into their lives.

As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the many lives she touched and the immeasurable gifts of kindness, strength, and love she leaves behind. She has set a lasting example of compassion, dignity, and resilience that her family will carry forward in her honor.

Danita Anthony will be dearly missed by all who knew her. May her memory be a beacon of gentleness and care.

Service details will be shared at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who loved Danita honor her legacy by extending kindness and compassion to others in need.

but God is the strength of my heart

and my portion forever.”

Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness."

A Mother’s Love (Our Adaptation)

Mom,

You were imperfect yet perfect in our Father’s vision,

Your bright smile lit the way with pure precision.

You taught strength to those that witnessed your struggles,

You took it in stride despite your troubles,

The beauty you gave with sheer compassion

Gives hope to all as we gather.

Though we cannot hold you now,

Your strength will be shared through all accounts —

through every smile and every tear,

We will celebrate you year after year.

in every heartbeat of our lives,

It’s your blood that pumps, how truly divine.

Forever, we will carry you,

forever, we will love you,

forever, we will remember:

you are our mother,

and we are your daughters,

“A Mother’s Love” we will carry beyond measure.

With the deepest love,

Tanika & Tywana
