Daniel “Dan” Oscar Hiltz Jr., age 65, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at Trillium Woods Faith Hospice.

Born on February 16, 1960, in Grand Rapids, Dan spent his life with a wrench in one hand and a good story in the other. He had a natural gift for fixing things—whether it was a broken appliance, a squeaky hinge, or someone’s bad mood. A skilled repairman by trade and a fisherman at heart, Dan loved the outdoors, especially the simple joy of casting a line or sitting around a campfire.

Dan was known for his sharp wit, quick comebacks, and ability to bring laughter to any room. He had a story for every occasion and never missed a chance to crack a joke or lighten the mood.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Doreen Church and Jeanne Yon and her husband, Sam; his nephew, Ken Herington and his wife, Jessica; and his nieces, Nicki Fehrlen, Jamie Fehrlen, and April Fehrlen. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Hiltz and David Hiltz; his sister, Joyce Seevers; his mother, Geraldine Byers; and his father, Daniel Hiltz Sr.

Dan will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His humor, generous spirit, and storytelling legacy will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
