Cynthia Schelhas

Friday, September 30, 2022, the world was shorted a shining star. The heavens gained one more.

Cynthia Kay Schelhas (Yost) of Ada, Michigan, passed away surrounded by her loving family after a brave battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kay and Vince, and her niece Rose.

Cindy was born May 8,1958 to Kathleen and Vincent Yost. Cindy was a Mom to Tyler Cornell. A Grandma to Eythan Cornell. A Wife to Gary Schelhas. She was beloved as a Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt, Great Great Aunt, and Friend.

She was born into a large, loving, laughing family of 6 sisters and 1 brother. Her siblings and friends describe her in a loving myriad of ways. She was kind, generous, empathic, encouraging, goofy, inspiring, giving, caring, fun-loving, beautiful, sensitive, supportive, smart, thoughtful, patient, insightful. She was also described as spunky, fierce, compassionate, sweet and genuine.

Cindy loved animals. She has always had a dog (or 2), a cat, and occasionally a squawking bird. She was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables. She loved to can the fruits of her labor and prep enough food to feed an army. She was happy to teach anyone who wished to learn. Christmas time would find her baking loads of cookies and breads as gifts.

She loved her music loud and her cars fast. Her laugh could fill a room, her sense of humor was quick and sharp. She was hilarious.

She insisted on being a Detroit Lions fan but had a soft spot for Washington's Joe Montana. She loved Lake Michigan and camping with family. Cards, board games, basketball, reading and crafts would happily occupy her time.

Her time here with us was a blessing unlike any other. She made an impact and gave love freely to us all. She will be profoundly missed.
