Cynthia Rae Delmont (Gleason)

August 3, 1954 — January 13, 2026

Belmont

Cynthia Rae Delmont, affectionately known as Cindy, was born on August 3, 1954, in Fremont, Michigan, and passed away peacefully in her home in Belmont, Michigan on January 13, 2026, after valiantly battling ALS. She leaves behind an indelible legacy of kindness, adventure, and love that will be cherished by all whom she touched during her remarkable life.

Cindy grew up in Whitecloud, Michigan with her parents: (Vida) Irene and Jerry Gleason, along with her sisters, Beth Carnegie and Deb Marker (who have all undoubtedly welcomed her into heaven). Their memories will surely carry on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Ever the brilliant scholar, she earned her bachelor's degree, with her full ride academic scholarship, at Kalamazoo College. She then entered a career as a phlebotomist and later as a Histo-tech at Butterworth Hospital, where she met and married (after only 3 months of dating) her husband of 48 years, Robert Delmont. After traveling in Europe and years of praying for children, they were finally blessed with four beloved children: Amber, Ben, Celina, and Delia.

She raised their children with a spirit of acceptance and unwavering support, helping them to become the wonderful individuals they are today. The warmth of her home was a sanctuary for neighborhood children, where laughter echoed and memories were made. Holidays were transformed into unforgettable gatherings filled with love, as she embraced the beauty of family and friendship. The love she poured into her family and community will continue to resonate through the lives she touched.

Her spirited nature made her a beloved figure not only within her family but also throughout her community. As a devoted Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, Cindy demonstrated her joyful, patient, and charitable nature, welcoming all into her life. She dedicated countless hours to committees at North Kent Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder, deacon, and liturgist, and contributed to the church choir. Through charity drives and commitment to her faith, she left a lasting imprint on the hearts of many.

The impact of Cindy's life extended even farther beyond her family, friends, neighbors, and church community. She found so much joy in shaping the lives of young learners as a paraprofessional and BAC teacher for Rockford Schools that she took on the challenge of earning a second degree and a teaching certification from Grand Valley State University. She used these skills to forever change the lives of her students with dyslexia through the Orton Gillingham Method at the Masonic Temple. Her dedication to education and morality inspired many of her children and even some of her older children to embark in fields of caring for and helping others.

Cindy's bravery in exploring new careers probably stemmed from her love for adventure, as evidenced by her enthusiasm for studying abroad, trying new foods, learning about, accepting and embracing many different people and their various cultures, as well as family vacations, particularly her cherished trips to Anna Maria Island, Florida. Whether embarking on a road trip out west, visiting friends across the country, camping under the stars, or creating adventures from mere moments, she epitomized a zest for life that inspired those around her. Her passion for exploration was matched only by her deep appreciation for the little joys found in everyday life.

As we gather to celebrate the extraordinary life of Cynthia Rae Delmont, we remember a woman whose joy was infectious, whose kindness embraced all, and whose adventurous spirit ignited the hearts of many. She is and will continue to be missed by her husband, four children, and nine grandchildren. Though she has departed from this world, her legacy of love, compassion, and community will live on in the stories we share and the lives she inspired. Rest in peace, dear Cindy; your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
