Connie (Purchase) McVey

Connie McVey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, in Holt, Michigan, surrounded by those who loved her.

Connie was born to William and Ruth (Marten) Purchase and was preceded in death by her parents and her dear siblings William, Dolores, and Virginia. She is survived by her siblings: Richard, Jerry, David and Linda, Ken and Charlene, and Doug and Delores—each of whom she loved deeply.

On August 22, 1964, Connie married the love of her life, James “Bob” Robert McVey. Together, they shared sixty years of marriage filled with faith, service, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Side by side, Bob and Connie faithfully attended and served at Woodview Church of the Nazarene in Lansing for decades, where Connie led Children’s Church with a heart full of joy and commitment.

Connie’s legacy lives on in her children: Deb McVey, Beth (McVey) and Philip Poole, Jonathon McVey, and Steve and Samantha (Coe) McVey. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Andrew (Drew) and Kendra, Jackie, and Rebekah and Tyler. Her joy was multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Melea Luella, Noah James, and Zoe Ruth.

She was also deeply blessed by her chosen family, Laura and Sam Teed, with whom she shared over 50 years of friendship, laughter, and life. Their bond was as close as kin, forged through faith and love. Connie treasured her role in the lives of their children—Juanita, Timothy, and Rebekah—who were as dear to her as her own. The Teeds were not only family by heart, but a steady presence of mutual care, support, and shared memories across five decades.

Known affectionately as “Aunt Connie” to many—both by blood and by love—she welcomed everyone with open arms and an open heart. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth, and hospitality. If you were down on your luck, you could always count on Bob and Connie for a hot meal, a safe seat at the table, and heartfelt prayer.

Connie’s life was defined by her unwavering devotion to Christ, her family, and her church. She had a deep love for nature, especially the trees and seasons of her beloved Michigan. An avid cook with a twinkle of mischief, she was known to “borrow” a good recipe now and then—always with the intention of making something delicious to share.

A memorial service to celebrate Connie’s life will be held at Woodview Church of the Nazarene, 1500 E State Rd, Lansing, MI 48906 at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The service will also be live streamed on the church’s Facebook page. There will not be a burial service.
