Christine Winkelmann passed away on Monday the 4th of March, 2024 at the age of 95.
Christine was born in Langenargen, Germany on the Bodensee (Lake Constance). She studied early childhood education in Freiburg, Germany. While working for a German family in New York, she went on a blind date with Erwin Winkelmann, whom she eventually married. They settled in White Plains, NY, moving to Cleveland and Rocky River, OH a few years later, where they lived until Erwin’s passing, 12 years ago.
Christine loved to knit and play bridge with friends. She was active in golf, tennis and bowling. She knit and donated so many caps and baby socks to charity, that in honor of her 90th birthday, the mayor of Rocky River declared May 24, 2018 the official “Christine Winkelmann Day”.
Christine spent the last few years of her life in Grand Rapids, MI, surrounded by her family; son Stephan, wife Jeanne, grandchildren Joshua (Rachel), Andrew and Melanie Burnham (Andrew). She is also survived by her children Christine Wade (Paul) and Philip (Deanna).
