Carolyn Louise (Jones) Hilton, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, in Byron Center, Michigan, at the age of 87. Born on December 4, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts, Carolyn's life was characterized by her warm-hearted nature and her dedication to her family.
An only child, Carolyn grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, surrounded by many special grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends who were a huge support system in her life. Maine always held a special place in Carolyn’s heart, as it’s where she met her husband, Larry and started her own family. Even after relocating to Michigan, she maintained strong connections with her loved ones through frequent trips, phone calls, and letters.
After moving to Wyoming, Michigan, Carolyn raised her three daughters and worked many years in the service industry, holding positions at Payless Shoes and Hills Department Store before eventually retiring from Walgreens. She was known for her friendly demeanor, always smiling and engaging in heartfelt conversations with both customers and colleagues. Her knack for conversation, especially in “making a short story long,” made her time in retail not just a job, but a cherished opportunity to connect with others.
Family was so important to Carolyn. She cherished her daughters and their families, and as her family grew, she and Larry were at every activity they could possibly attend for each of their children and grandchildren. They were staples at the theater, ballpark, soccer or lacrosse fields, as well as every school event possible. Her thoughtful spirit shone brightly through her love for sharing handwritten notes, cards, and gifts for every holiday, birthday, or other special occasions.
Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Larry Hilton, and her three daughters, Stacey Hilton, Melissa (Ed) Schneider, and Amy (Joseph) Cortez. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Gabriel, Elijah, Kendall, Grady, and her great-grandson, Ezra. She was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Mckenna Hilton; mother, Abby Jones; and her cherished surrogate parents, Uncle Oliver and Aunt Helena (Jones).
Carolyn’s spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends who are fortunate to have so many cherished memories of her long life, her everlasting smile, and her generosity. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
