Carole Marie Batway (Jacques)

Carole Marie Batway left us Saturday evening, Jan sixth, with her children by her side, she would have been 91 years old on Feb 15. Carole was born and raised in Door/Kewaunee County WI where she grew up on a farm near Forrestville. The oldest of seven, she attended Door/Kewaunee Teachers College and became a teacher. In 1955 she met and married Coastguardsman Charles, Chuck Batway with whom she relocated to SE Michigan, attending Eastern Michigan University to finish her teaching accreditation. Through the next 55 years, until Chuck's passing she lived and taught, mostly special reading, at eight different school systems throughout Michigan. Upon their retirement they lived seasonally in Waters MI and Bonita Springs Fla. Professionally, as a Special Reading Teacher, Carole was instrumental in enabling countless children in Northern Michigan being able to read and write. Over the years she received many letters from parents of former students and the students themselves stating that were it not for her dedication they would not be where they were today. In her later years Carole was active in GPA, her golf group "The Golf Bags", and her church, Michelson Memorial United Methodist. She is survived by her sons, Marc and Eric, her daughter Beth, daughter in-law Sheri (Eric), son in-law Onon (Beth), grandchildren Megen E Batway, Nicole M Batway, Connor Batway, and Great Granddaughter Dakota Batway. She is pre-deceased by her husband Chuck and grandson Travis.
