Carol Schlotthauer

February 5, 1946 — November 6, 2024

Carol Schlotthauer, a devoted wife, cherished mother, loving grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednessday November 6, 2024 at the age of 78 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer and several months of chemotherapy. For 56 beautiful years, she was the beloved wife of Gene, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and adventure until his passing four years ago.

Born in Paradise CA, she dedicated over 35 years of her life as a compassionate labor and delivery nurse at Feather River Adventist Hospital where she welcomed hundreds—if not thousands—of new lives into the world. Her gentle touch and reassuring presence were a comfort to countless families during their most precious moments. A survivor of the devastating fires that consumed the town of Paradise, California, she exemplified resilience and strength in the face of adversity.

Her love for music drew her to operas, plays, and live performances of all kinds, enriching her life and those around her with the arts. An avid reader, she was an active member of several book groups, where she shared her insights and fostered a love of literature. Her talent for crocheting and sewing was renowned among family and friends. The afghans she lovingly crafted are treasured keepsakes, symbolizing the warmth and care she extended to all. She embraced life with enthusiasm—enjoying mowing her yard on her zero-turn mower, exploring ORV trails on her quad, and gathering fallen branches around her home to fuel the cozy fires in her wood stove. Her adventurous spirit led to travel including RV camping trips, cruises, and family vacations, creating a tapestry of memories that her family will cherish forever.

She is survived by her sister Margaret, her three sons, two adoring grandchildren, and five beloved great-grandchildren - all of whom were the joy of her life. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family is a testament to a life well-lived. In the blessed hope of the second coming of Jesus, we find comfort knowing that she will awaken alongside her dear Gene when those who rest in Christ rise to heaven. Her faith was a guiding light, and we rejoice in the promise of their eternal reunion. A celebration of her life took place in her final weeks, where she could laugh, share pictures, music, bible verses and memories with her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Grand Rapids Adventist Academy worthy student funds, honoring her lifelong commitment to education and to helping others. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
