Candace Ann (Pichler) Bates, affectionately known as Candy, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, in Coldwater, Michigan. Born on October 28, 1946, in Adrian, Michigan, she was a warm and friendly presence in the lives of all who knew her.
After graduating from Adrian High School, Candy pursued her passion for beauty by attending Hillsdale Beauty College after completing her high school education. Her vibrant personality and loving nature made her a remarkable grandmother, beloved by her grandchildren who cherished her nurturing spirit and culinary skills. A gifted cook, she had a talent for creating meals that brought joy and comfort to family gatherings.
Her interests extended beyond the kitchen; Candy enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy and immersing herself in the challenge of crossword puzzles and activities that reflected her love for learning.
Candy is survived by her loving children: Amy (David) Martino, Todd VanPeete, and Susan (Brent) Bates-Timar. Additionally, she is survived by her cherished grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy of warmth and kindness. Her siblings John Pichler, Connie (Pichler) Rousseau, and Mary Jane (Pichler) Ely remain to celebrate her life and the memories they shared.
Candy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and June Pichler, as well as her husband Jon Bates, who passed away in 2002.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her family and friends, who were touched by her generous spirit and love. Candace Ann Bates will be deeply missed, but her legacy of compassion and her joyful spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her.
