On April 13th, 2022, Beverly (“Bev”) Schott, age 83, was welcomed into the Garden of Eternal life. There she joined her husband of 53 years, J. Vaughn Schott, and her sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Charles Crownover.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Tim (Renee) Schott, and Gretchen (Wayne) Bickel; grandchildren: Brianna Schott, Rob A. (Alexis) Quick, Ensign Matthew (Mary) Quick, and Heather (Mark) Ginevan; her great-grandchildren: Ella, Reese, and Nora. Bev had a special place in her heart for Joshua Olson, Nicole (Louis) Proton, and children: Victoria, and Luke; many other family members, and friends.
Beverly was raised in West Chicago, IL and she attended Western Michigan College to study Library Science. Later in life, she earned her Advanced Master Gardener certificate from Michigan State University.
Beverly had a passion for Education and spent many years working for Grand Rapids Public Schools at various local schools. Serving others was important to Bev - a moral value she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Her volunteer activities included: PTA, Founder of Block Parent in GRPS, Battle Creek and Grand Rapids Jaycees, Parkinson’s Association of West Michigan (founded Caregivers Group), and the Dean Lake Woods (DLW) Condo community for more than 8 years.
Beverly also volunteered more than 500 hours at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. Her passion for green things went beyond plants and flowers. As a very loyal fan, she enjoyed watching the many wins of the MSU Spartans (GO GREEN!). She also looked forward to her weekly Rummikub game nights with the “girls” in her condo community. Bev will be remembered for her spectacular planning, hosting and cooking skills, as well as her signature red lipstick and perfectly manicured nails.
Bev was an Advanced Master Gardener for a reason, she loved flowers, particularly roses! Her family provided floral arrangements for her Celebration of Life Memorial service were planned in advance by Bev to include specific colored roses. So, it’s no surprise when she said, “I’d like lots of flowers at my service.” Else, donations in honor or Bev would also be appreciated at: VanAndel Institute for Parkinson’s Disease research, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, or North Park Presbyterian Church.
The family of Beverly Schott wishes to thank the nurses and aides, especially Jason and Mackenzie, of the Spectrum Health Meijer Heart Center, 6H, and Faith Hospice, for all of the care, compassion and empathy during Mom’s last days. Condolences, or favorite memories of Bev, may be left here under the Memory Wall above. Please see below for Visitation & Service Details.
