Barbara Madison

March 6, 1942 — February 6, 2025

Barbara Rae Madison (Snyder) was born in Fostoria Ohio on March 6, 1942 to William Jay Snyder and Viola Mae Snyder (Copsy). Barbara passed away peacefully, with her family present, at Corewell Health on February 6, 2025.

She graduated from Fostoria High School and took university classes in both Ohio and Michigan. Barbara worked as a teacher, interior designer, and most ardently, as a genealogist for 30 years specializing in documentation that chronicled Native American family trees and history.

Barbara had several hobbies and a solid work ethic. She loved gardening, cooking, the beach, art, storytelling, and mostly she enjoyed her hobby of genealogy. After studying genealogy as a hobby for about 10 years she started teaching it to others through community education classes, then ultimately her work ethic and expertise in the field led her to work with several Native American tribes in a legal capacity to research family trees and their tribal history in North America. Through her solid work ethic and love of genealogy, she turned her passion into her profession.

Barbara is survived by her children Samantha and Kyle (Hillari) Madison, her grandchildren, Jessica, Avabella, and Maximilian Madison, and her youngest sister Diane (Terry) Harden. She is also survived by many close friends and neighbors.

A celebration of life gathering will be held with family and friends at a later date
