Anthony Roy Zwick, 28, of Kalamazoo, formerly of Mount Pleasant, passed away unexpectedly on August 18, 2024, after a long struggle with mental illness. Anthony grew up in Mount Pleasant and attended Mount Pleasant Public Schools, where he enjoyed participating in the PEAK before- and after-school programs, especially those that involved reading, which he loved. He was a voracious reader and from a very early age he would create and write stories about entire worlds, populating them with fully realized characters. He loved video games and science fiction movies, and you could often find him binge watching the Batman Begins or Lord of the Rings trilogies, which he could (and often did) discuss to the smallest detail. In his youth, Anthony also enjoyed playing sports. He played little league baseball, ran track at West Intermediate, and lettered in football at MPHS. Though Anthony’s recent life was challenging, he never lost his love for his Detroit sports teams, especially the Tigers and Red Wings, and he was beyond excited to see the Lions win the NFC North and come so close to the Super Bowl. Anthony is survived by his mother, Mary Roy, and brother, David Zwick, both of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; his sister, Katie Zwick, of Brooklyn, New York; his father, Mike (Hafsa) Zwick, of Kalamazoo, Michigan; his grandmothers, Helene Roy, of Rochester, Michigan, Carole Zwick, of Brighton, Michigan; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers Kenneth Roy and Gary Zwick. In accord with Anthony’s wishes, there will not be a service or memorial. Donations in Anthony’s name may be sent to the Lieber Institute for Brain Development at https://lieber.donorsupport.co/page/donate .
