Anna Marie Bixler, a cherished soul born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on December 17, 1947, and taken from us after a long battle on January 11, 2026, lived a life rich in love, resilience, and adventure. The steadfast heart of her family, Anna devoted 59 remarkable years to her beloved husband, Dwight, and fostered deep bonds with her three children, Allen (Sam) Bixler, Mitzi (Charles) Sessions, and Lillian (Cody) DeKoning.

Anna's journey was as vibrant as the gardens she tended to with so much care. Known for her spicy spirit and grit, she triumphed over a myriad of medical challenges, becoming an inspiration to many. Thirteen and a half years post-lung transplant, Anna relished the precious bonus time gifted to her – time filled with heartfelt moments spent with her grandchildren, with whom she embarked on countless adventurous escapades. Anna loved her dear church, Bradley Indian Mission. Where she was a life long member. Born and raised on the Bradley Settlement, many knew her as "Sister". She became like family with many after the tragic passing of her mother Lillian, in 1955, as the community helped raise her in the following years. Those dear to her, knew her favorite phrase, “Whachya-ma-call-it,” which encapsulated her unique and whitty personality.

A proud graduate of Wayland Union Schools, Anna dedicated a significant part of her career to the same institution, where she later retired from in 2006. She was also known by many from her dedicated time at Kessler's, right here in Wayland, Michigan.  Beyond her professional life, she loved spending her time gardening, tending her cows and farm chores, kayaking, and camping that were often accompanied by the family and life long friends she adored and in later years going on adventures with her grandkids and completing her "bucket list" with her daughter.

Her spirit was inspired with a fascination for nature, and she held a special fondness for hummingbirds and turtles, symbols of her humble yet grounded approach to life. To her loved ones, she was fondly nicknamed "Spicy Anna Banana," representing the zest she infused into every moment and her outlook at overcoming her life challenges and many medical challenges.

Anna's memory will be lovingly held by her husband, Dwight, her beloved children, grandchildren and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her. She now joins the spirits of her mother, Lillian Rose; father, Paul; and siblings, Paul, Ben, Leon, Eugene, Charlie, and Marcaline, waiting to meet again in a place of peace and harmony.

As we gather to celebrate the life of Anna Marie Bixler, let us carry forth her legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering spirit, cherishing the lessons she imparted and the joy she brought into our lives.

A celebration of life is planned for July, 2026. Details forthcoming.

Donations in Anna's memory can be made to Bradley Indian Mission or Faith Hospice.
