It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Angela Maria Barber, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Angela was born in Brigham City, Utah, and raised in Huntington Beach, California. She graduated from Edison High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Phoenix. Angela excelled as an equestrian in her youth, winning awards for her horsemanship throughout Southern California.
Angela leaves behind her husband of 23 years, Philip Barber. She is also survived by her brother Michael Smith (Robin), her sister Sena Hoodman (Michael), her niece Maria Averill, nephews Tyler Smithson (Teagan) and Bradley Smithson, her grandniece Chelsea Averill, grandnephews Nathan Averill and Luke Bergman, and the many loving members of the Barber family who welcomed her to Michigan twenty years ago.
Angela was predeceased by her parents, Marlene “Peggy” Jensen Smith and Melroy Edwin “Ed” Smith. She passed away peacefully, with her husband and niece by her side.
Angela’s vibrant spirit and love for adventure, and fearless nature, were evident in her many passions: skiing, motorcycle riding (with her beloved Pomeranian in tow), jet skiing, and cycling. She never met an animal she didn’t love and was known to bring home the occasional dog during her time volunteering with the SPCA. She leaves behind her three beloved dogs: Daisy, Layla, and Cash.
Though Angela did not grow up knowing Jesus, she found Him later in her life, enjoyed reading scripture with her husband each morning, and found a home church at Grace Harbor.
Angela will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held
November 29, 2025, at Grace Harbor Church in Kalamazoo at 10:30 AM.
See you in heaven, Angie.
