Allen Wiltse

August 23, 1958 — September 5, 2024

Allen Dale Wiltse, known affectionately as Al by his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully in Grand Rapids, MI, on the 5th of September, 2024, at the age of 66. Born on August 23, 1958, in Springlake, MI, Al's early years were marked with both joy & hardship as family dynamics shifted & changed often.

Al's educational journey culminated with a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, a field where he excelled and left a lasting impact. His professional life spanned over four decades, during which time he made significant contributions to several organizations including Meijer, Stiles Machinery, The Rapid, and Fleis & VandenBrink. His colleagues will remember him not only for his work ethic but also for his ability to lighten any moment with his quick wit and jovial nature.

Al's love & pride for his family were evident to all who knew him. He is survived by his former wife of 38 years, Martha, his daughter, Erin Graham, and her husband, Enoch Graham; his daughter, Loren Livingston; and his cherished granddaughters, Ella, Anna, and Nora, who will miss their papa's humor and playful demeanor. Let us also not forget Chase, his deeply loved companion & furry friend over the past few years that brought light into the dark spaces.

Al's personal interests were as vibrant and diverse as his personality. With a passion for gardening, he could often be found tending to his plants and flowers, a testament to his nurturing nature. His love for convertibles reflected his appreciation for the freedom and joy of life's simple pleasures. Al was also passionate about house projects, where his creative problem-solving skills shone brightly.

An avid writer, Al found solace and expression through his words, often sharing stories that resonated with the hearts of his readers. He was a skillful opponent at the playing card table, a pastime that brought him much joy, friendly competition and reasons to share weekends with friends. He loved being out in the sun while he drove his convertible and blasted his favorite music for all to hear.

Those who knew Al will remember him as the life of the party, always ready with a joke or an inappropriate comment to push the limits. His spirit was truly gritty, and he approached every challenge with a rare blend of humor and resolve. Many seasons of his life brought challenge, pain & brokenness and although that's not the way it should be, Al learned to endure amidst it.

Al Wiltse was a man who lived his life with a contagious enthusiasm that inspired everyone he encountered. He had the remarkable ability to humor people, ensuring that laughter was a constant presence in his interactions. His legacy is one of joy, inspiration, and a boundless zest for life. He wrestled with faith his whole life but it was apparent during his battle with cancer over the last 2 months that God intervened to convince him of His presence and goodness beyond what this side of eternity offers. Jesus showed Himself to Al & to all of us in the process and we have confidence that salvation came to his household.

As we say goodbye to Al, we celebrate the remarkable man he was and the countless lives he touched with his funny, spirited, and creative presence. His memory will continue to encourage all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Al's story is one of love, laughter, and the reality of grief & joy mingled. He will be deeply missed but memories of him will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have had time with him on this side of heaven.
