Vito Peraino

August 21, 1947 — November 15, 2022

Vito Peraino IV, 75, of Kalamazoo, passed away surrounded by family at Bronson Methodist Hospital on Tuesday, November 15. Vito was born in Detroit on August 21, 1947, to Sarah (Mazzara) and Vito Peraino III. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School, Mt. Clemens in 1965, he attended Western Michigan University.

Vito proudly served in the Marine Corps and the Marine Corp Reserves from 1968 to 1974. He was a medaled Vietnam veteran who never missed celebrating a November 10th Marine Corps birthday. After completing his service, he had a career in transportation logistics until his retirement in 2005.

Over the years, Vito enjoyed a host of hobbies. He was a skilled sailor and a valued crew member on two winning entries in the challenging Port Huron to Mackinac race. He was an avid University of Michigan and Detroit Lions football fan and devoutly followed the Detroit Red Wings. And, a day on the golf course with friends was another of his favorite activities.

Vito cherished family and friends, often recounting the joy of travelling to Sicily with his son Vito Christopher or following the Red Wings with his daughter Kathryn. He also took great delight in a “night of carousing” with his extended family at the VFW Post 827.

Vito was predeceased by his parents Sarah and Vito Peraino III, his brother Joseph Peraino, and son Vito Peraino V. He is survived by his son, Vito Christopher Peraino and his daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Peraino, as well as many relatives from the Mazzara and Peraino clans.

In his memory, donations to Keystone4Vets are appreciated.
