George McKenzie was called home to be with the Lord peacefully on November 1, 2023 after a long illness. He was born to the late John Paul and Rosa Mae (Ballenger) McKenzie in Inman, South Carolina on January 10, 1944, one of ten children.
George graduated from Peekskill High School Class 1963 in Westchester County, NY where he was a star athlete holding many long standing records in football and track and was the recipient of the prestigious Con Edison Award. He continued his education at Parsons College in Ames, Iowa where he played football. In 1972 he opened Professional Search in Muskegon, MI, an employment agency and executive search firm, which he owned and operated until his retirement. In his free time he was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast.
George was the rock and pilar of the McKenzie clan. He was a passionate family role model and a solid man of honor and justice. Those who knew were blessed to have been touched by his wise counsel, kindness, support, and love. Rest in power with your ancestors family patriarch - your work here is done. We will sing your name always.
George is proceeded in death by his two sons, Walter John McKenzie and Scott Lawrence McKenzie; brothers Richard McKenzie, Walter McKenzie, Roy McKenzie, and Warren McKenzie and sisters Esther McKenzie, Fannie Mae Blacket and Margaret Elizabeth Mair. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Imanta (Zarins) McKenzie, his daughter Ingrid (David) Kellaghan and his beloved grandchildren Blythe and Neeve Gillian, sister Annie (Dennis) Deering, brother Benjamin McKenzie and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. According to George's wishes a private family service will be held.
