Adam Ronald VanHoose left this world on April 16, 2024 at his home in Rockford, MI. He was born November 1, 1977 to Ronald and Grace Ann VanHoose in Seattle, WA. He was the youngest of 3 children and the only boy. On the day that he was born, his dad was so excited he went knocking on a brand-new neighbors' door proudly announcing he had a son.
Adam loved sports from the time he could catch a ball or swing a bat. He grew up in Bothell from the time he was born until his teens. He played football in the Bothell Bears little guy football league, played baseball in Northshore Little League and Youth Basketball. He loved it all. He went on to play in junior high school as well. Adam's favorite childhood memories, and most of his childhood friends were connected to his teams and coaches he adored.
Adam moved to St Ignatius, MT in high school with his parents and sister Ronna. Here he made quick friends and jumped right back into sports. The boys he met in Montana became brothers to him. He played American Legion Baseball every summer - catcher, pitcher and 2nd base. He was a natural athlete and would be the first to tell anyone who'd listen how great he was at it all. He was competitive and committed to each game.
Adam graduated from high school in Montana and from there moved back to the Seattle area. He worked at various companies in their purchasing departments and had the gift of being able to talk to anyone. He reconnected with many of his early childhood friends after moving back. He loved to golf, loved bologna sandwiches with too much mayonnaise, JIF Peanut Butter, Taco Time crisp BEEF burritos, PLAIN burgers with ketchup only, Doritos and he loved watching professional sports.
Adam also loved love. He was married to Megan Nager in 2001. Their young ages meant that maybe this was too fast, and they parted ways not long after. He later met Tarah Talbott and they married in 2006 and share a son, Lucas. But the fates had other plans, and the two separated within a few years. Adam finally seemed to have found his best match meeting Lisa Ricketts a few years later, together they had a baby girl, Grace named after Adam's late mother. They were together until Lisa went on to Heaven herself.
Painful losses were also a part of his life's story, and sadly he is preceded in death by both of his parents - Ron and Grace Ann VanHoose, all of his grandparents - Tom and Helen Leary, Charles and Louella VanHoose and also Lisa, who passed away in 2020. He was never the same person after losing Lisa.
Adam had a relationship with God that was sometimes strained, as he struggled with understanding the reasons for the tragic parts of his life. He prayed often, and he knew he would be reunited in Heaven with those he missed so dearly. His mother had a strong faith, and she prayed (by rough estimate) about a million full rosaries for him over the years.
Adam tried to change life with a fresh start moving he and Grace to Michigan in 2021. While living there he and Grace shared many happy times with his dear friend, Erin Kloostra and her children. He had high hopes for this new adventure, but sometimes it's harder to try to move ahead than we expect.
Unfortunately, his battle of addiction with alcohol was ongoing, and coupled with his grief, he was unable to overcome it all despite support from family and friends.
Adam is survived by his children, Lucas (17) and Grace (11), his sisters Shawna McGahan and Ronna Beal, several nieces and nephews, a large extended family, and several close friends.
He was loved by many, could tell jokes almost as good as his Dad, and was an important part of many people's lives. He will be missed, but we all find comfort that his battle has come to an end and he is now at peace.
A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a fund set up to help cover the costs associated with end of life, help with the remaining costs of raising his children and providing for their educations.
